Hookin4Health Collaboration Program News 2024February 19, 2024

Great News with ACCL/Aspire and Oceania Hockey Federation Inc agreeing to an extension of their collaboration to support training, mentoring and delivery support through Hookin4Health.

Currently we are working with Oceania Hockey to confirm program delivery across the programs in Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands.

ACCL/Aspire has developed a training and mentor Hockey Leaders Program that work with Hookin4Health Staff to provide upskilling in working with program partners, project administration, reporting and governance, as well as sharing many practical aspects of program delivery, skill development and working with school aged children, young women and girls and family members.

ACCL/Aspire is in the unique position of sharing the frameworks and the model program from within the Aspire to be Deadly Program where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island young women hold leadership roles and this is shared through the program to reinforce the importance gender equity and role models play in these programs.

It is great that Gill from Oceania Hockey gave us the following feedback –   I also wanted to say how much your workshop in Oct has led to confidence in the PNG staff.  They immediately started their school visit program and delivered a superb Children’s Day celebration (Nov) with students from Gordon’s International Sec School. Ray and Hussein went to Manus in December and ran a magnificent program that was very much based on a sport 4 development view. It was called ” Empowering women and transforming the village” 253 women were involved with a local female health professional going to the 3 different villages. Hussein ran the youth program and they played beach hockey!!

They reported back to the Australian HC, who attended their December Team Up meeting, and got rave revues. So much so the Aus HC has got in touch this week to ask Hin4H to travel to Manus mid-March and run a similar follow up program but adding – “Love your Coast” which is a Aust HC theme. Ray has really hit his straps and has taken Hussein and Gabriella along with him. He valued the time he spent with his aunty in Cairns and she passed away early this year.

Wes Ferns and David McNeil will be taking part in review and reporting to highlight what great progress this collaboration is making.   More information on 2024 coming soon.
