ASPIRE COMMUNITY HUB AND YARNING PLACE UPDATEFebruary 28, 2022

Attendance and participation at the Aspire to be Deadly community hockey hub activities has increased significantly in 2022. Week one started with around 20 and week 2 there was almost 30 young people attending. It’s the best start to the hub since its establishment as part of the COVID19 community supported recovery plans across Live Well Learn Well Lead Well.

The Aspire to be Deadly Bus collects our students from Cairns West and Trinity Bay High School and some Aspire staff arrange for other students to attend based on the current program delivery schedule.  Its great to see the students engage and we always begin the afternoon sessions with emerging leaders coordinating afternoon tea and clean up.

There is some quiet time, some yarning time, and mentor time followed by Play activities all designed to support team building activities, problem solving, engagement and leadership. A little rest period and then students attend hockey training with their club teams.  After training the Aspire team coordinates a bus run home.

For all those students wanting to play with club on Saturday – first game of the season, don’t forget to bring your forms back to the hub this week or send through to Stephanie at media@cairnshockey.com.au

School to Club is part of the Cairns Hockey Aspire to be Deadly Program, a collaborative sport for development program and we thank the many supporters of this program including Cairns Hockey Clubs, Cairns West State School, Trinity Bay High School, Trinity Anglican School, Bentley Park College, Cairns Safer Streets, BDO Nth Qld, Just Hockey, NQPHN, Queensland X Ray.

Everyone is looking forward to the first game of the season and a big thanks to all our supporters and a special thanks to the Aspire staff whose commitment to these programs inspires us all.
